ATTICA. ATHENS. Ca. 500-480 BC.

Obv. Helmeted head of Athena right.
Rev. [Α]ΘΕ, Owl standing right, head facing, olive sprig in left field.
Seltman Group Gi, SNG Munich 30-34.
NGC graded CHOICE XF, Strike 4/5, Surface 4/5, with a nicely centered obverse strike featuring a full Athena head and a partial helmet crest. This is a high grade specimen of the early owls of Athens, a historic coinage issued before the city was sacked by the Persians and hence an emission that would have been circulating during the Persian Wars.
