Silver Tetradrachm, 13.73 g., 25 mm., struck under magistrate Meniskos.
Obv. Veiled head of Demeter right, wearing a wreath of grain.
Rev. EΠI ΜΕΝΙΣΚ[ΟΥ], Poseidon seated on a rock right, holding trident and aphlaston, BY monogram in upper right field (= abbreviated BY for the city’s name), ΣOI control monogram in lower right field.
Marinescu Issue 6; Schönert-Geiss, Byzantion 979–91 (likely same dies as Schönert-Geiss 983); HGC 3, 1408.
NGC graded AU, Strike 4/5, Surface 3/5, an exceptional specimen in high grade belonging to the seldom seen “Demeter-Poseidon” series struck by Byzantium during the third quarter of the third century BC.
