TYRE SILVER HALF SHEKEL – ELUSIVE OVERDATE FOR YEAR 162 – FINE NGC GRADED GREEK TYRE COIN (Inv. 13476)
Silver Half Shekel, 6.59 g, 19 mm, minted in Year 162 (AD 36/37).
Obv. Laureate head of Melkart right, within dotted border.
Rev. Eagle on prow to left, PΞB (date) above club in left field, KP over XX monogram in right field, aleph between eagle’s legs.
DCA Tyre Supplement Release 2, no. 884.
NGC graded FINE, Strike 5/5, Surface 3/5, a very interesting and elusive “overdate” as described in Cohen, p. 435, where the digit B in the date was engraved over the A from the previous year, transforming the date from 161 to 162.
