Silver cistophorus, 12.68 g, 27 mm. Issue of Pergamon struck under Roman rule.
Obv. Cista mystica within ivy wreath. Rev. Snakes around quiver, ΠEPΓ monogram in left field (for Pergamon), ΔI above ΠPYT (=prytaneis/official) above, caduceus and snake symbol in right field.
SNG France 5, 1734-1735.
NGC graded CHOICE XF, Strike 3/5, Surface 4/5, bright, with nice details, struck 30% off center on the obverse. This issue was produced after the Romans were awarded Pergamon by royal testament of the last Pergamene king in 133 BC. The coinage they struck resembled the earlier coinage of the city but had some different controls and symbols.
