21013. ROMAN EMPIRE. GALBA, AD 68–69.

Obv. IMP SER GALBA CAESAR AVG, draped and laureate bust of Galba right. Rev. DIVA AVGVSTA, Livia, standing left, holding scepter and patera.
RIC I, 186.
NGC graded CHOICE VF, Strike 5/5, Surface 4/5, “edge chips,” golden iridescent highlights on obverse and with a particularly expressive portrait of the emperor.
Galba, the first of three short–reigning emperors, proclaims on this coin his allegiance to the Julio–Claudian house, doing so by evoking the image of Augustus’ deified wife Livia, styled as “DIVA AUGUSTA” (the “Divine Livia”). The emperor’s mature and impressive physiognomic features are exceptionally rendered here.
