Gold Award Medal for the VIII Internationale Kunstausstellung zu München, Second Class, in the weight of 6 Ducats, awarded to Alexandre Marcette, 20.67 g, 34 mm (unmarked but tests at 98% gold).
Obv. Athena seated left, gently touching her olive tree, and leaning on her shield; “BOERSCH” (engraver) inscribed in exergue. Rev. INTERNATIONALE KUNSTAUSSTELLUNG MUENCHEN, wreath with plaquette (machine inscribed “ALEX. MARCETTE”), another smaller plaquette at bottom (machine engraved “1901”).

Proof–like, minor edge bumps, with the original presentation case inscribed “VIII. Internationale Kunstausstellung zu München. 1901.”
The above is an example of the luxurious award medals which were given out at the Munich International Art Exhibitions during the late 1890s and first decade of the 1900s. In 1901 painter Alexandre Marcette, a renowned Belgian landscape painter, participated in the exhibition with the work “Mondaufgang auf dem Moerdyk (Holland).” He is listed in the Exhibition program as having received second prize at the show.
