Silver Denarius, 3.90 g, 18 mm. Issue of an uncertain Spanish mint, ca. 19 BC.
Obv. CAESAR AVGVSTVS, bare head of Augustus right. Rev. SIGNIS RECEPTIS, standard at left, aquila at right, on either site of the Clipeus Virtutis inscribed CL V, S P Q R in field.

NGC CHOICE AU, Strike 4/5, Surface 5/5, sharply struck with golden highlights above a pleasing gray glossy surface.
The intricate reverse type refers to two widely celebrated themes of Augustan propaganda – the return of the Roman military standards previously lost to the Parthians and the “Shield of Valor” (Clipeus Virtutis) one of the many honors received by Augustus and mentioned in his autobiography, the Res Gestae.
