$1,500.00

20917. PAMPHYLIA. PERGA. CIVIC ISSUE IN THE NAME AND TYPES OF ALEXANDER THE GREAT, ca. 221–188 BC.
Fourrée Tetradrachm of Alexander type, 15.70 g, 31 mm. Issue dated Civic Year 25 (197/6 BC).
Obv. Head of young Heracles right in lion skin headdress. Rev. ΛΛΕΞΛIIΔΡΟΛ (instead of ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ), Zeus enthroned left, holding eagle and scepter, KE (date) in left field.
Cf. Price 2939 for official issue.
NGC graded MINT STATE, Strike 5/5, Surface 4/5, a very well–made ancient counterfeit, possibly produced at the mint itself, the silver cladding virtually intact, with only the unusually low weight (real specimens weigh nearly 17 grams) and the garbled legend betraying the true nature of the coin.
