$14,750.00
21014. KINGDOM OF SPAIN. COLOMBIA. CHARLES II (CARLOS II) POSTHUMOUS EMISSION UNDER PHILIP V.
Gold Cob 2 Escudo, 1713, no assayer (Arce), 6.63 g, 22 mm. Issue of Bogotá mint.
Ex 1715 Fleet Shipwreck.
Sedwick, Arce’s Doubloons, no. 153 (C7/P6y), same dies; KM 14.2; Calicó Type 1929 (under Philip V); Restrepo M66.32.
Ex Sedwick 31, 5/4/2022, lot 59 where this is stated to be ex Bowers and Ruddy Auction, 2/17/1977 (Harold A. Blauvelt, Iberoamerican and 1715 Spanish Treasure Fleet Collections), lot 5321. The original auction listing indicates 5321 was offered with encrustation that has been subsequently removed, revealing the present super high–grade specimen.
NGC graded MS64, Shipwreck Certification, “1715 Fleet” NGC label.
Although the 1713 date was not initially noticed and the coin erroneously dated 1711, Dan Sedwick’s die study conclusively proves this is a 1713 specimen. It is a full die match with Sedwick, Arce’s Doubloons, no. 153 that bears a 1713 date which also appears on this coin despite the roughness of the die.
With a date of 1713 NGC has graded only six specimens, and this piece shares the TOP POP place with one other coin.
