All specimens struck from a die pairing show that the dies were considerably worn. In fact, the reverse die here exhibits a massive fault starting to develop at seven o’clock. This must have gradually expanded during the striking process and led to the total breakdown of the die. This is confirmed as this is the very last instance when this die is used in the series.
