Silver “New Style” Tetradrachm, 16.70 g, 30 mm. Issue of ca. 117/16 BC, under magistrates Themisto–, Theoponpos and Aristo–, with trophy on prow control symbol.
Obv. Helmeted head of Athena right. Rev. AΘE, owl standing right, head facing, magistrates’ names ΘΕΜΙΣΤΟ, ΘΕΟ/ΠΟΜ/ΠΟΣ, ΑΡΙ/ΣΤΟ in fields, trophy on prow in right field, I (month) on amphora, ME in exergue, all within wreath.
Thompson 606 a–b (same obverse die).
Ex Gorny & Mosch 314, 10/14/2025, lot 279, there said to have been acquired from A. Wenninger at the Numismata show of 1999.
NGC graded XF STAR, Strike 5/5, Surface 4/5, nicely centered and with attractive golden toning, which is recognized by NGC’s coveted star designation.
